Are climate socks made of CO2?
Admittedly, our climate socks are not made from CO2. Nevertheless, they ensure that CO2 is filtered from the air. With every purchase of our individual climate socks Mammoth Revival , Orca Fever and Be Conscious, we filter 1 kg of CO2 from the air. If you choose the Climate Consciousness Box with the three designs, it's even 10 kg of CO2!
How do the climate socks work?
We work with the Swiss company Climeworks . Climeworks filters CO2 from the ambient air with its direct air capture technology. The CO2 is then mixed with water and pumped deep underground. Through natural mineralization, the carbon dioxide reacts with the basalt rock and turns into stone itself within a few years.
Why is this good for the environment?
The climate crisis is one of the greatest challenges of our time . Burning fossil fuels releases more and more CO2 into the atmosphere. CO2 contributes to global warming, which leads to extreme weather events, sea level rise and other environmental problems.
By filtering CO2 from the air, we help limit the greenhouse gas emissions caused by the production of our socks.
Are the socks climate neutral?
Since 2020, all DillySocks products have been climate neutral . This means that we record our greenhouse gas emissions, reduce them and offset them through climate protection projects. By the way, you can find out more about climate neutrality in this article .
From this perspective, the collaboration with Climeworks is another driver for CO2 reduction. Due to the additional reduction of CO2, the climate socks and climate box are not only climate neutral, but actually “climate positive”: With every sale, more CO2 is filtered out of the atmosphere than we cause by producing and shipping the socks. Nevertheless, we would like to emphasize that the production of DillySocks cannot generally be classified as climate-positive, and we use this term in a very reduced manner and exclusively in connection with the climate socks.
What designs are there as climate socks and climate boxes?
The climate socks are available in three different designs:
- Orca Fever : These socks are in a fresh shade of blue and feature a motif of an orca. The orca is a symbol of the beauty and diversity of the oceans - which are in great danger due to climate change.
- Mammoth Revival : These socks are in a warm brown tone and feature a motif of a mammoth. The mammoth is a symbol of the Ice Age and the consequences of climate change.
- Be Conscious: These socks have a colorful design and feature a globe motif. The motif is intended to remind us of the global dimension of the climate crisis.
- Climate Consciousness Box : Includes - you guessed it - all three designs mentioned.
