Our climate socks: Sustainable socks with a clear conscience

Do something good for the environment by wearing cool socks. Sounds tempting to you? Then our new climate boxes and climate socks are just the thing for you. To give you a little more context about our most sustainable sock collection to date, we have put together this short FAQ.

Are climate socks made of CO2?

Admittedly, our climate socks are not made from CO2. Nevertheless, they ensure that CO2 is filtered out of the air. With every purchase of our individual climate socks Mammoth Revival , Orca Fever and Be Conscious, we filter 1 kg of CO2 out of the air. If you choose the Climate Consciousness Box with the three designs, it's a whopping 10 kg of CO2!

How do the climate socks work?

We work with the Swiss company Climeworks . Climeworks filters CO2 from the ambient air using its direct air capture technology. The CO2 is then mixed with water and pumped deep beneath the earth's surface. Through natural mineralization, the carbon dioxide reacts with the basalt rock and turns itself into stone within a few years.

Why is this good for the environment?

The climate crisis is one of the greatest challenges of our time . The burning of fossil fuels is releasing more and more CO2 into the atmosphere. CO2 contributes to global warming, which leads to extreme weather events, rising sea levels and other environmental problems.

By filtering CO2 from the air, we help reduce the greenhouse gas emissions caused by the production of our socks.

Are the socks climate neutral?

Since 2020, all DillySocks products have been climate neutral . This means that we record and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and offset them through climate protection projects. You can find out more about climate neutrality in this article .

In this sense, the collaboration with Climeworks is another driver for CO2 reduction. The additional reduction in CO2 means that the climate socks and climate box are not only climate neutral, but in fact "climate positive": With every sale, more CO2 is filtered out of the atmosphere than we cause through the production and shipping of the socks. Nevertheless, we would like to emphasize that the production of DillySocks cannot generally be classified as climate positive, and we use this term very sparingly and exclusively in connection with the climate socks.

What designs are available for climate socks and climate boxes?

The climate socks are available in three different designs:

  1. Orca Fever : These socks come in a fresh shade of blue and feature a motif of an orca. The orca is a symbol of the beauty and diversity of the oceans - which are in great danger due to climate change.
  2. Mammoth Revival : These socks are in a warm brown tone and feature a motif of a mammoth. The mammoth is a symbol of the ice age and the consequences of climate change.
  3. Be Conscious: These socks have a colorful design and feature a globe motif. The motif is intended to remind people of the global dimension of the climate crisis.
  4. Climate Consciousness Box : Contains - you guessed it - all three designs mentioned.

Are climate socks sustainable gifts?

The climate boxes and climate socks are the perfect gift for climate-conscious people who want to combine cool socks with CO2 reduction. Whether for Christmas, birthdays or anniversaries - our socks are a great gift for any occasion. At least in our opinion - which, admittedly, is not entirely objective.

What quality do the climate socks have?

High quality organic cotton socks: Like all other DillySocks, our climate socks are made from organic cotton in a family business in Portugal. The socks meet the highest quality standards . When growing organic cotton, 100% of the time, no synthetic pesticides, artificial fertilizers or environmentally harmful chemicals are used.

GOTS certification: Our climate socks from the latest collection are also GOTS made with organic certified. This means that the organic cotton socks meet strict ecological and social standards. GOTS certification is the world's leading standard for the processing of textiles made from organically produced natural fibers. It covers the entire production process, from harvesting the raw materials to processing and labeling.
