It is one of the great sock mysteries of mankind: losing individual socks. Whether it is magic or a sock monster - the theories about the missing pieces are endless. But: could the eternal mystery have been solved? Or in short: could the sock not whirl through the slot between the rubber and the washing drum during washing and be pulled out where the water gets in? We have done a little research.
On the trail of the secret
And indeed: expert Wilfried Pusch, who has been repairing washing machines for 35 years, investigated this theory - and told MDR: "Everything is correct. There is nothing to add. It differs from model to model. But of course, disappearances do occur." If the socks then get caught on the machine's radiator, they would be dissolved "by chemicals," Pusch continued.
One thing to note, however, is that when asked, the major washing machine manufacturers say that the gap in the machines is designed to be as thin as possible - and that socks shouldn't actually fit through. The Miele spokeswoman also believes that most socks simply get lost.
Prevent socks from disappearing
The fact is: In order to get to the bottom of the whole thing - or to stop losing socks - there is only one thing that helps: Individual DillySocks in all shapes and colors. Because two always belong together. And this is probably the best counter-tactic ever!
